UniME is currently listed among the top Universities in the world by some of the major international rankings.
In the ‘QS World University Ranking 2025’, UniME gains over 100 positions, being ranked in the 751-760 bracket worldwide and 25th in Italy.
The number of participating institutions in this edition was 5663,compared to 2963 last year (+2700), while the number of ranked universities was 1503 compared to 1499 last year.
In the 2025 ranking, the best results were obtained in the ‘Citations per Faculty’ indicator, which measures the quality of research - for which the University ranks position #372 in the world; and for ‘International Research Network’, which certifies the degree of internationalisation of university research for which UniME ranks position #394.
For the indicator measuring universities' commitment to sustainability, UniME also ranks position #393, gaining 118 positions compared to 2024.
The QS prestigious ranking considers several parameters including the quality of research, the academic reputation, the internationalisation ratio, and the employability factor related to the participating universities.
In the QS World University Ranking by Subject 2024, UniME has confirmed its position for Life Science & Medicine (ranking #451-500) and recorded the new entry of Pharmacy & Pharmacology (ranking #251-300) and Physics & Astronomy (ranking #551-600). In addition, the Pharmacy and Pharmacology macro-area has registered position #10 nationwide.
In the Times Higher Education (THE) – World University Rankings 2025, UniME confirms its overall position in the bandwidth #501-600, out of a total of 2092 universities ranked worldwide, being ranked #25 among the 55 Italian universities evaluated and improving its performance for the indicators Research Environment and Research Quality, Teaching and Industry. For the Research Quality in particular, UniMe ranks #433 worldwide.
In the 2024 Ranks, UniME ranked bandwidth #301-400 in the 2024 Ranks for Clinical, Pre-Clinical and Health, Engineering and Technology and Business and Economics.
THE Impact Ranking 2024 ranks the University of Messina as 1st in Italy and 23rd worldwide for its work on SDG 3 of the United Nations 2030 Agenda. This is an important recognition of the policies that UniME has been pursuing for several years on the sustainability front. In particular, a series of policies such as those aimed at guaranteeing free sports activities for students, cultural events and training projects in the field of public health, relations with health institutions, and psychological support for young people have had an impact in the ranking criteria. In the ranking, in which 1,498 universities are assessed, UniME stands out among the 16 Italian universities ranked for this objective.
In the prestigious ARWU (Academic Ranking of World Universities) 2024, UniME is ranked #801-900 worldwide, with the following best ranked subjects: Veterinary Sciences (#101-150), Agricultural Sciences and Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (#151-200), Food Science and Technology, Dentistry and Oral Sciences and Medical Technologies (#201-300) and Public Health (#301-400).
