The University of Messina has been awarded the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE) 2021 – 2027 by the European Commission.

The Charter will allow the University of Messina to compete for the available funds in the framework of the new Programme for Education, Training, Youth and Sport “Erasmus +” in the period 2021 – 2027.

The Erasmus Charter provides the general quality framework for European and international cooperation activities a Higher Education Institution (HEI) may carry out within the Programme Erasmus + and it is the necessary requirement for the participation in the Programme.

The University of Messina considers “internationalization among the primary objectives of its action. Unime promotes and increases the circulation and exchanges of teachers and students; it prepares and implements integrated study programmes and any other suitable initiative for enhancement of teaching and research activities, in line with with the human, financial and instrumental resources available ” (Article 1 par. 4 of the Statute). On the basis of these provisions, Unime promotes and enhance the international mobility of the entire academic body to third country institutions with which an official cooperation agreement is in force or within the framework of European or international programmes or projects.

In this light, the Erasmus Policy Statement (EPS) attached to the ECHE, reflects how the University of Messina in pursuing its Internationalisation strategy will abide by the fundamental principles of the Programme, such as non-discrimination, transparency and inclusion, Civic engagement, digitalization and sustainability.
