Every academic year, all students who are enrolled at the University of Messina on a regular basis must submit their Study Plan via the Esse3 platform. To do so, they must select the “Study Plan”("PIANO DI STUDI") menu item in their personal area.
The Study Plan is a list of the courses and educational activities that a student intends to undertake during their degree programme, for which they must pass the associated exams. Students can choose courses from their programme's official curriculum, according to specific selection rules.
All selected courses are automatically added to the student's online academic record (libretto), which can also be accessed via Esse3.
Key information
- Submitting the Study Plan is mandatory and must be done every academic year.
- Students can only register for exams that are included in their Study Plan.
- To submit the Study Plan, students must be enrolled in the current academic year.
Exceptions
Students who are not enrolled in the current academic year (i.e., “fuori corso”) are not required to submit a Study Plan. They must contact the competent Student Secretariat for any changes to their academic record.
1. How do I access the Study Plan submission?
Log in to your personal area on Esse3, click on 'Study Plan' ("PIANO DI STUDI"), then select “New Plan” or “Edit Plan” to begin. The system will then display the list of mandatory exams and, if applicable, optional courses.
2. What types of educational activities are included?
There are three types:
- Mandatory activities: Courses that cannot be changed.
- Optional activities: A limited list of courses from which students can choose.
- Free-choice activities: Credits that can be earned from any course offered by the university, outside of the student’s own programme.
Please note that not all students will have access to all types of activities. Availability depends on the rules of each Degree Programme.
3. When is the Study Plan considered complete?
The study plan is only considered complete once the 'Confirm Plan' and then 'Confirm Definitively' buttons have been clicked. Otherwise, it will remain in draft form and the academic record will not be updated.
4. Can I take an exam that is not included in my Study Plan?
No, exams must be included in both the Study Plan and the academic record in order to be taken.
5. Can I add courses from future academic years?
No. The Study Plan only includes courses offered in the current academic year.
6. Can I remove or replace a course from a previous year that I haven’t completed?
Yes, but only during the official Study Plan submission period, provided that the changes comply with the Student Regulations and the curriculum of your Degree Programme.
7. Are there specific rules for adding the multidisciplinary course “Sustainability”?
Yes. Students may choose only one version of the “Sustainability” course - either in Italian or English. If the course is already in your academic record and you wish to change it, you must submit a formal request to the Student Office via email: protocollo@unime.it.
