The Italian Government approved a reform that abolishes the traditional admission test for the Italian-taught Programme in Medicina e Chirurgia, introducing an initial semester open to all students, with subsequent selection based on the results obtained. The details for course access will be defined in the coming months.

Key Points of the reform for admission to Medicine programmes in Italian:

  • Admission test: Traditional selection tests (e.g., Tolc) have been abolished.
  • Introduction of a 'Filter Semester': Open access to the first semester for all interested students. Two common exams will be administered in all Italian universities. The average grades will determine who can continue the Medicine study path.
  • Credits transfer: Students who are not eligible to continue in the Medicine programme can use the credits earned to enrol in other related faculties (e.g., Pharmacy, Biotechnology).

IMPORTANT NOTICE: This reform does not apply to English-taught Medicine programmes. Therefore, the International Medical Admission Test (IMAT) remains the selection method for admission to these programmes.

Any changes will be announced online. We recommend regularly monitoring the official website of the University of Messina for updates.
