During the inauguration of the Academic Year 2025/2026, the University of Messina reaffirmed its commitment to human rights and support for students affected by global crises.
A delegation of Iranian students attended the ceremony, where Rector Giovanna Spatari offered condolences following the tragic death of Yasin Mirzaei in Iran and encouraged students to “resist — no violence can ever silence your voice.”
Ahead of the event, the Rector met with Iranian student representatives and announced plans to send a formal letter to national and European institutions. The letter will urge coordinated diplomatic action to protect fundamental freedoms and ensure continuity of education for Iranian students in Italy.
