Epilepsy Day

On February 12, 2024, to mark International Epilepsy Day, a significant awareness-raising initiative took place aboard the Elio ship, promoted by the AOU "G. Martino," Caronte & Tourist, and LICE Sicilia-Calabria. During the Strait crossings, specialists informed passengers about epilepsy, collecting data and promoting awareness. The Calabrian pylon was illuminated in purple, symbolizing the event. The initiative involved neuropsychiatrists, neurologists, and associations, emphasizing the importance of overcoming stigma and bureaucratic obstacles. Epilepsy, a chronic neurological disease, affects approximately 600,000 Italians. The goal is to promote awareness, research, and access to treatment, including through a national plan and a dedicated registry. Music and participation made the event engaging and inspiring.
