The University of Messina reaffirms the solidarity with the Iranian students of our academic community and recognizes the daily contribution that Iranian students offer to our collective growth and intercultural dialogue through their studies and active participation. UNIME recognize the profound impact these circumstances may have on the psychological and physical well-being of our students, as well as on the regular progression of their academic careers.

UNIME is committed to defend academic freedom and human rights, with particular focus on the right of women and young people to study and express themselves freely, without discrimination or violence. In this regard, as previously announced, a formal letter has been addressed to the Minister of University and Research, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the regional, national, and European parliamentary delegations of Messina. This letter calls for the utmost commitment to promoting consistent and timely diplomatic initiatives for the protection of human rights and the full exercise of fundamental freedoms.

UNIME is aware of the difficulties and distress caused by the current political and institutional instability in their home Country. For this reason, the University has implemented extraordinary support measures specifically for Iranian students.

These initiatives are designed to provide concrete assistance and to safeguard the continuity of their academic pursuits during this challenging time.

  • Enrollment deadline Extension: The deadline for enrollment via the ESSE3 system has been extended to March 31, 2026, without the application of any late payment fees (mora).
  • Administrative Assistance: In coordination with the competent Italian diplomatic and consular authorities, the University will provide support to facilitate the finalization of entry visa procedures and subsequent enrollment.
  • Tuition Fee Exemption: A temporary exemption from the University Contribution (C.O.A.) for the 2025/2026 Academic Year, as well as any other contributions or late fees, is granted to students already enrolled in a Degree Program who are not currently recipients of scholarships or other financial aid measures. ERSU scholarship holders (both A and I) do not have to make any payments.
  • UNIME will provide further official information about the deadline for the payment in due time, based on the evolving circumstances.
  • Extraordinary Session: All students are permitted to sit examinations during the extraordinary session in May.
  • Financial Standing: Students are authorized to take examinations even if there are pending tuition fee payments.

The University of Messina offers free psychological support to all students through the Psychological Research and Intervention Center (CE.RI.P.).
