The University of Messina has once again confirmed its leading role in promoting health and well-being. In the prestigious THE Impact Rankings 2026, the University ranked 1st in Italy and 26th worldwide out of 1,254 assessed universities for its performance in relation to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) of the United Nations 2030 Agenda. This recognition rewards UniMe’s ongoing commitment to sustainability. Key factors contributing to this result include policies that provide students with free access to sporting activities, cultural initiatives, educational projects in the field of public health, strong partnerships with healthcare institutions, and psychological support services for students.
The Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2026 evaluate universities around the world according to their contribution to sustainability. In particular, the rankings assess how institutions help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including the objective of ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all.
“This achievement makes us proud and, at the same time, strengthens our sense of responsibility,” commented Rector Giovanna Spatari. “Being recognised for our commitment to health and well-being confirms that we have chosen the right path—one that places people, especially our students, at its centre. For many years, our University has worked with increasing dedication and awareness on all aspects related to sustainability and the Sustainable Development Goals, integrating them into academic policies, teaching activities and research. We will continue to act with determination to consolidate and expand the initiatives already underway, convinced that a university should be not only a place of education and research, but also a community capable of promoting quality of life, inclusion and tangible attention to the needs of the local area.”
