Within 8 working days of arrival all non-EU students intending to stay in Italy for more than 90 days must apply for a residence permit for study purposes (“Permesso di soggiorno per motivi di studio”). The residence permit is issued by the local Police Department (Questura) "Immigration Office".
Students can apply directly for the residence permit for study reasons, obtaining a kit from any qualified post office (Poste Italiane – Sportello Amico). The kit is an envelope containing the forms and instructions on how to fill them in. We advise you to go to the authorised C.A.F. office where they will help you start the procedure of obtaining the residence permit.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
Once the residence‑permit application has been initiated, the enrollment procedure may be commenced.
Freshmen are required to notify the Welcome Office of the appointment date set by the Immigration Office. This can be done either during the enrollment procedure on ESSE3 uploading the Receipt of the appointment at the Immigration Office (ricevuta appuntamento) or uploading the document here.
International students living in Messina and enrolled in years subsequent the first one who need to renew their residence permit are not required to request an enrolment certificate indicating passed examinations. Their status will be verified directly by the Questura’s Immigration Office on the day of the appointment.
