Learning Italian at UniME

Studying at the University of Messina will enrich your study experience, will broaden your cultural background, improve your professional skills and give you the opportunity to explore the beauty of Sicily and Italy. All this can be further enriched by learning Italian language! This will give you the opportunity to understand more about local culture.

The Department of Ancient and Modern Civilizations (DICAM) provides 40 hour-long courses of Italian language for students on international mobility (incoming students) and foreign nationals. A1-A2 and A2-B1 level courses are organized throughout the two semesters of the academic year. At the end of the Course a certificate will be issued upon request. In order to take the final exam, students must have 75% attendance (30 hours of the course). If a student fails to reach the minimum attendance rate to take the exam, they can take again the course in a subsequent semester, following the regular registration procedure, comprised the payment of the due fee. The attendance in the previous courses won’t be taken into account.

Students must register by the 15th of October (first semester courses) and by the 25th of February (second semester courses).

Students must register filling in the application form. The form must be sent, together with a copy of the tax code (codice fiscale) attached, to amministrazione.dicam@unime.it and cc fruggiano@unime.it . When the minimum number of applicants is reached for the course to start, students will be contacted and required to pay the fee. The receipt of payment must be sent to the same addresses mentioned above.

Lessons are held 3 days a week (2 hours each) at the “Polo didattico interfacoltà” (Aulario) . The timetable will be available soon after the deadline for applications. 

For incoming students, 1.5 ECTS credits will be awarded to students who pass the final exam.  In order to take the final exam, students must have 75% attendance (30 hours of the course).

Enrolled international students will be able to apply to the Degree Course for the recognition of the activity, with the inclusion of ECTS credits in their student career records as established by the Study Manifesto of the degree programme they belong to. Students can request a certificate of successful completion of the course. In order to take the final exam, students must have 75% attendance (30 hours of the course).

  • Erasmus+ students:  Free of charge.
  • Mobility students on cooperation agreements or enrolled international students: Eur 100 (after bank commissions). The method of payment will be described in the e-mail requiring the fulfillment of the payment.
  • External students: Eur 400. The method of payment will be described in the e-mail requiring the fulfillment of the payment.
  • Refugees / asylum seekers: Free of charge.
