The National Institute of Health (NIH) has funded a project involving the University of Messina together with other research centers, such as the University of Pittsburgh (Pittsburgh), the University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia), the Morehouse School of Medicine (Atlanta), the SickKids (Toronto), and the University of British Columbia (Vancouver).
Professor Stefania Mondello of the University of Messina is one of the “principal investigators” of the project of over 5 million dollars funded by the NIH. The assignment of these grants is very competitive, indeed less than 15% of the proposals are approved for funding.
The project entitled “Analytical characterization and validation of blood-biomarkers for monitoring TBI evolution” represents a huge step forward in the optimization of new ‘markers of brain injury’ and therefore in their application in current clinical practice.
