Simultaneous Enrolment in Two Higher Education Programmes

Main features

Since the 2022/23 academic year, students will be permitted to enrol in two higher education programmes simultaneously,as established by the Italian law of 12 April 12 2022.  Ministerial Decree No. 930, issued on 29 July 2022, outlines the procedures that facilitate dual enrolment.

Students may enrol in a maximum of two programmes, which can be offered by the same university or Different universities or Institutions of higher artistic and musical education (AFAM), including international ones.

Possible programme combinations

Possible combinations include:

  • two Bachelor's Degree Programmes
  • two Master's Degree Programmes
  • one Bachelor's Degree Programme and one Master's Degree Programme
  • one Bachelor's or Master's Degree and one PhD programme
  • one Bachelor's or Master's Degree and one Non-medical Specialisation Programme
  • one Bachelor's or Master's Degree and one Master's Programme
  • one PhD and one Non-medical Specialisation Programme
  • one PhD and one Medical Specialisation Programme (as regulated by Article 7 of Ministerial Decree 226/2021)
  • one Master's Programme and one Non-medical Specialisation programme
  • one Master's Programme and one Medical Specialisation Programme.

If students are enrolling in two Bachelor's, Master's or Single-Cycle Degree Programmes, they must belong to different classes and differ by at least two-thirds in terms of educational activities.

To enrol in various study programmes, students must possess the qualifications required by national legislation and university regulations. Furthermore, depending on the language in which the course is taught, students must hold a valid language certificate at level B2 CEFR in either English or Italian, unless exemptions apply.

If one of the programmes requires compulsory attendance, enrolment in a second programme that does not require compulsory attendance is permitted, except for programmes where compulsory attendance is only required for laboratory and internship activities.

Scholarships and exemptions

Study rights benefits are provided for a single enrolment. Total or partial exemption from student fees is granted for both enrolments, provided that the requirements set out in the current regulations are met.
