
The scholarships funded by PNRR funds are PhD scholarships allocated under the Next Generation EU - PNRR project, which provides interventions aimed at increasing, promoting, and enhancing higher education and postgraduate specialization, innovating PhD programs and promoting them within public administrations and cultural heritage, thus supporting these organizations towards greater digitalization, a "culture of innovation," and internationalization.
The first tranche of these funds, amounting to € 5.490.000, allowed the University to award 120 PhD scholarships for the 38th Cycle of the 2022-2023 A.Y..
The second tranche of these funds, amounting to € 13.230.000, allowed the University to award 230 PhD scholarships for the 39th Cycle of the 2023-2024 A.Y..
The third tranche of these funds, amounting to € 3.760.000, will allow the University to award 62 PhD scholarships for the 40th Cycle of the 2024-2025 A.Y..
For the 40th cycle – A.Y. 2024/2025, the University of Messina has received co-financing for PhD scholarships from D.M. 629/24 and 630/24 of the PNRR, Mission 4 – Component 1 and Component 2 of funds "financed by the European Union – Next Generation EU" and in particular:

- Inv. 3.3 No. 51 PhD scholarships co-financed by businesses, through which innovative PhD programs with an industrial focus have been launched.
Companies interested in co-financing the PhD scholarships can submit an Expression of Interest.

No. 1782 of July 1, 2022) and the Regulations governing patenting activities at the University of Messina, will promote the valorization of project results and guarantee intellectual property rights, ensuring open public access to research results and related data in the shortest possible time and with the fewest possible restrictions, in accordance with the "Open Science" and "FAIR Data" principles.

In application of the cross-cutting priorities relating to generational, gender, and territorial equal opportunities, shared by the six Missions of the PNRR and Article 47 of Legislative Decree No. 77 of May 31, 2021, as amended, and the principle of gender equality, to which all Implementing Bodies are bound, the University verified that these principles had been applied in the selection procedures for doctoral students. At the end of the procedures for awarding PhD scholarships co-financed by the Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR) from PNRR funds, it was found that 50% of the PhD scholarships awarded at the Messina administrative office were awarded to female PhD students, effectively complying with the regulatory requirements.
Furthermore, as requested by the MUR, the University, including the coordinators of the PhD programs receiving PNRR scholarships, has declared that the scholarship management and research activities carried out by PhD students in the research projects specified on the platform will respect the principle of competition for the ecological transition of resources and will not violate the "Do no Significant Harm" DNSH principle, thus not causing significant damage to the environment.
The University, also in compliance with the University Regulations for Scientific Integrity in Research (issued with D.R.
