An industrial PhD or a PhD in collaboration with companies is a three-year course that involves a research project aimed at the company and a training course carried out thanks to the collaboration between a company, an industrial doctoral student and a university.
The PhD student carries out his/her work activities both at the company and at the university, dedicating his/her working time to the industrial PhD project.
Why choose an industrial PhD project?
The project allows the industrial PhD student to carry out a project whose results will be effectively applied in a corporate context.
The company has at its disposal a candidate able to carry out a high-quality research project, the results of which can lead to positive results in commercial terms and at the same time may strengthen its relationships with old and new university partners.
Public universities have the opportunity to strengthen their collaborations with the business sector, laying the foundations for new research perspectives.
Activation procedures
Companies interested in activating an industrial doctorate can activate the collaboration either by financing PhD scholarships, or by making their premises and equipment available to develop the planned research.
They must contact the Coordinator of the PhD Course and start the formalization procedures by sending a Letter of Expression of Interest by January 31st of each year, of which the facsimile is available on this page.
Following this, an Agreement will be stipulated in which obligations and duties for the company and the University will be specified, which may be valid for a single year or even more.
The company will be asked to produce a training plan and planned research activities which will be attached to the Doctorate form in the PhD Call for Public Competition for the PhD Cycle and for which specific availability must be specified by the candidate.
