The University of Messina has subscribed to a Campus License for Rosetta Stone, a language-learning software in e-learning mode, available free of charge to all UniME users (Students, Faculty, and Administrative Staff).
Rosetta Stone does not intend to replace curricular language courses, if provided, but rather to integrate and supply multimedia teaching in those paths where classroom teaching is not required (as indicated in the Study Manifesto, courses marked as TAF E and TAF F).
To make student access and activity reporting easier, a dedicated platform called UniMeStone has been created.
Students can log in through the UniMEStone icon on the University Dashboard ('Cruscotto').
Access must be carried out using institutional credentials: codicefiscale@studenti.unime.it
and the same password used for the ESSE3 platform.
Then, click on the Rosetta Stone icon on the University Dashboard and log in to UniMeStone.
It is also possible to access the service directly at the UniMeStone Platform.
After logging in, the platform allows you to set your goals.
- Learn a language (personal study): allows you to choose any language available in the Rosetta Stone® catalog for personal study.
Note: this goal is for personal study only, therefore study hours will not be monitored or reported.
- Language proficiency requirement: the platform recognizes the student and shows the language proficiency activities linked to their Degree Program.
Note: students must verify the correspondence of CFU credits with what is required in their study plan. In case of mismatch (or absence of the goal), they must contact the administrative/teaching support office of their Department (see “Rosetta Stone Support Email Addresses” at the bottom of the page).
- Recognition of free CFU credits: allows you to choose any language available in the Rosetta Stone® catalog. On the following screen, you can select the number of CFU credits you want to obtain and therefore the related study workload (1 CFU → 25 hours up to a maximum of 6 CFU → 150 hours).
Other user-specific goals may also be available.
PAY ATTENTION! Only ONE GOAL can be completed at a time.
A goal can be closed only after 15 days have passed since it was chosen. Closing a monitored goal before completion will result in the loss and reset of all reported activities up to that point.
Once the goal is set, simply click the “Start Rosetta Stone” button to be redirected to the Rosetta Stone® platform (login credentials may be required again) where you can begin language learning.
You will be required to take a placement test lasting about 30 minutes. We strongly recommend taking the test without “cheating”! This test is not evaluative and will not affect the student’s academic record, but will only serve to place them at the most effective and personalized starting point for their study path. The test is like a photograph for creating a painting: the better the photo, the better the final portrait!
IMPORTANT: Always use the same account you registered with for both accessing the learning program and requesting support.
The control and monitoring of student activity on the platform will be carried out by staff appointed by each Department. Experts recommend not spending more than two hours per session on the platform.
